Programs
Locally, Assistance League operates the following programs to
help the children and families of Santa Clara County:

Operation School Bell®: A four-part outreach program geared to elementary school children in the Los Gatos, Campbell, and Moreland School Districts.
1. Clothes for Kids: This project
works with area school districts to provide jackets and shoe vouchers
to deserving students referred by school personnel.
2. WALTER (We All Love To Explore Reading): To encourage a love of
reading member volunteers visit elementary school classrooms once a month
to read aloud and then donate new books to the class library. We All Love
To Explore Reading provides quality new and gently used books as well as new dictionaries to the children
for their personal use.

3. TEN: Target Exercise and Nutrition is the newest project of the
organization, and is designed to address the critical issue of childhood
obesity. Our volunteers, working with school personnel and parents, have
designed a program which seeks to encourage a child's enthusiasm for physical
fitness and healthy eating.
4. Scholarship Project: Elementary and middle school students, selected
by their teacher or principal, are provided financial assistance to attend
educational camps or health retreats, such as Science Camp or Diabetes
Camp.

Senior Pals and Silver Servers: Teams of Assistance League members
plan, shop for and prepare a nutritious lunch four days a week for the
seniors at the Saratoga Adult Daycare Center. Additionally, crafts or
entertainment are offered monthly. In conjunction with the Live Oak Nutrition
Center in Los Gatos, our members plan and provide assistance with craft
projects on a monthly basis.
Warm Hands-Giving Hearts: Families identified by the Santa Clara
County public health nurses are given gifts, purchased by our members,
to give to their children at winter holiday time, helping to brighten
the spirits of the givers and the receivers. Other year-round needs such
as disposable diapers, infant formula and children's board books are provided
as funds allow.
